Discover your potential

Welcome to

Friends' Prep Lisburn

Friends’ Preparatory Department is an integral part of Friends’ School Lisburn, one of nine Quaker schools in Britain and Ireland. The Quaker belief in care for the individual and the importance of the development of each person’s potential remains central to our ethos.

We recognise that the first school years are a crucial opportunity to create lifelong learners. At the Prep, boys and girls aged 3-11 years begin their educational journey in an inclusive and nurturing environment. Our unique setting provides exceptional opportunities for outdoor learning and easy access to the Grammar School’s facilities.

Dedicated, experienced staff support children to live adventurously and fulfil their potential. We seek to strike the right balance between school and family time and we recognise the importance of wellbeing. The education of a child involves a partnership between home and school.  We want parents to share the educational process with us as we strive to impart strong values to our pupils, knowing that this will enable them to make a positive impact on the world and improve the lives of others.

Our vision is that each child will experience excellence in a caring, supportive community.

I hope that this website gives you a sense of our wonderful school, but I would encourage you to come and see what we offer, we would love to show you around. To arrange a visit please contact the Prep office on 02892 669198 or email [email protected]. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Vision & Values

Our values are drawn from our Quaker heritage and are still relevant today.

Quae sursum sunt quaerite
‘seek those things that are above’.

This is

Our Story

The school was founded by the Religious Society of Friends’ in 1774, originally to provide an education for the children of Quakers in the area.

Originally known as the Ulster Provincial School, it was unusual for its time in that it provided for both boys and girls, something which encapsulates the value of equality which has remained central to its ethos ever since.
