School Life

Transition to Secondary Education

Most of our Prep 7 pupils sit the SEAG Entrance Assessment tests in November as their parents are considering applying for a school that uses academic selection.

Preparation for the tests begins in earnest in the second half of the Prep 6 year. Our Prep 6 and 7 teachers work closely together to ensure that the children are extremely well-prepared and we are very proud of our excellent results.

In the second term, the Head of Department and Prep 7 class teacher meet with parents to assist them with the post-primary application process. Pupils with a statement of Special Educational Needs use a different application system and are advised by our Learning Support Co-ordinator.

More information about SEAG can be found on their website https://seagni.co.uk/

Preparation for secondary education is not purely academic, however, and we are mindful of the need to provide a broad programme of life skills for our Prep 7 pupils.

Following the tests, the children engage in a range of projects and workshops that prepare them for moving on. These include the Danske Bank Business Beginnings programme, Sew Ready sewing skills, Cycling Proficiency and Scripture Union It’s Your Move. Within school, our oldest pupils take on more responsibility as House Captains, Sports Team Captains, Playground Buddies, Reading Buddies and on the School Council.

The school year ends with an emotional Leavers’ Assembly planned by the pupils, when we celebrate their Learning journey through the Preparatory Department.
